Description
Located in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, this old Quaker farmstead was General Lafayette's headquarters during the US Revolutionary War Battle of the Brandywine (Sept. 11,1777). Marquis de Lafayette was a 19 year-old French aristocrat who had served in the French army and was second in command to Gen. Washington. He was wounded in the leg during the battle but recovered and rejoined the American forces at Valley Forge two months later. Brandywine was his first battle and he remembered it fondly revisiting the site of his wounding in 1780.
