Description
The Louvre is the world's largest, most-visited art museum and historic monument in Paris, France. Built as a fortress in the 12th century and expanded many times thereafter, the Louvre became the palace of French kings and eventually a museum during the French Revolution in 1793. It houses some 38,000 art objects dating from prehistory to the present era. Among its celebrated works are the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, Winged Victory of Samothrace, and Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss. This image also available in color. Best viewed large.
