Description
Gideon Gilpin was a prosperous Pennsylvania Quaker farmer at the time of the American Revolutionary War. During the Battle of the Brandywine, Sept., 11, 1777, his home was appropriated by the Continental Army for use as a field headquarters for the French General Marque de Lafayette, who served under General George Washington. The home, located in Chadds Ford, Pa., looks today much as it did at the time of the battle. This image also available in color. Social media sharing always appreciated.
