Description
Located on Key Biscayne, the Cape Florida Lighthouse is the oldest surviving lighthouse in Florida. Built in 1825, its history includes a Seminole Indian attack in 1836 which destroyed the original tower. It was rebuilt in 1845 and again attacked during the Civil War when its lens was destroyed to prevent Union use. The lighthouse went out of service in 1878 but was re-lit in 1978 and is today open to the public. Oil on canvas, 14 x 11 inch original. Social media sharing always appreciated.
